The engine: artificial intelligence applied to financial markets in real time

Under every strategy on Luminvestry sits one continuously running analysis engine. This page explains what it actually does, how it works, what it measures, and, just as important, what it deliberately does not claim to be. No mystique, just machinery honestly described.

What the platform's artificial intelligence is

The engine is a body of statistical software that observes financial markets continuously and ranks situations by how closely they resemble patterns that have recurred historically. Its role in your account is that of a tireless analyst and disciplined executor: it watches, measures, compares, alerts and, when the rules you approved are met, acts. It is a tool of support for the person making the decisions, which is you, advised by your manager.

What it is not is an oracle. Probability-based analysis assigns likelihoods to situations; it never knows the future, and any system described to you as certainty is either misunderstood or mis-sold. We prefer our users to know exactly what kind of machine they are renting attention from.

How the technology works, end to end

1

Data gathering

Market feeds stream in around the clock: prices at fine granularity, traded volumes, and the opening books of the exchanges the platform connects to.

2

Intelligent processing

Raw data is cleaned, aligned and turned into measures: returns, volatility, momentum, correlations between assets, and the rates at which conditions change.

3

Continuous monitoring

Current measures are compared, instrument by instrument, against historical patterns and against the conditions your strategy names, second after second, without fatigue.

4

Structured presentation

Findings surface as plain-language alerts, dashboard states and weekly summaries, and as execution inside limits when, and only when, your agreed conditions are present.

What the engine measures

Five families of measures do most of the work. Price movement, across timescales from minutes to months, including how prices behave around levels that acted as barriers before. Trading volume, which shows where conviction sits and confirms or questions every price move. Volatility, both its level and its direction of change, since the same price path means different things in calm and chaotic regimes. Trend and momentum behaviour, which distinguishes persistent movement from noise. And historical dynamics, the study of how the same instrument behaved in analogous conditions before, which is the raw material of every pattern the engine recognises.

Changes in market conditions are treated as a signal in themselves. A market that has become unusually quiet, or unusually violent, is information, and the engine's stop conditions exist precisely because recognising chaos is half the skill of surviving it.

It is worth being clear about what "patterns" means here, because the word invites misunderstanding. The engine is not looking for shapes in candle charts that predict the future, the way pop books sometimes claim. It is estimating how often, in the historical record, conditions similar to today's were followed by various outcomes, and using that frequency to size opportunity against risk. When a user asks whether a market will rise tomorrow, the engine's honest answer is a distribution, not a direction, and everything it does in your account reflects that honesty.

What AI genuinely adds

Speed

Measurements update continuously and comparisons happen immediately. The engine notices in seconds what a person assembling spreadsheets notices next week.

Constant watch

Weekends, nights and bank holidays included. For markets that never close, this is not a luxury; it is the minimum viable attention span.

Your hours back

Users typically spend minutes a week rather than hours a day. The engine removes the queue-watching, not the understanding.

Freshness

Models are retrained and recalibrated on new data as markets evolve, because last year's patterns are a guide, not a gospel.

Usable by anyone

Findings arrive in plain English. A beginner reads the same alert a professional would, minus the jargon, and the manager explains any part on a call.

Who the technology suits

People with limited time who still want their capital actively managed rather than parked. People who want to use modern analysis tools across both shares and digital assets without building them personally. And people who are realistic: comfortable renting a machine's discipline while keeping every meaningful decision, from goals to risk limits to withdrawals, in human hands.

It suits experienced traders too, most of whom arrived here the same way: tired of their own execution being the weakest link in an otherwise sound plan.

Using it in practice, four steps

  1. Register on this page; your manager calls within 24 hours.
  2. Activate the account: documents, two-factor authentication, first deposit from £200.
  3. Meet the instruments with your manager: markets followed, conditions named, alerts chosen, limits set.
  4. Watch it work: alerts arrive, the weekly summary lands, and every action the engine took is visible in the dashboard and audit history.

An example of the technology reacting

Imagine a strategy following two liquid assets that usually move loosely together. On a quiet Tuesday afternoon the engine notices the first asset's price rising on volume climbing at twice its recent average, while the second has not moved at all. Historically, this pattern has sometimes preceded the second asset catching up within a day; sometimes nothing followed; and sometimes both fell back. The engine's job is to rank that situation and, because the conditions your strategy names include exactly this divergence, it opens a position sized to the limit you agreed, sends you a plain-language alert explaining what it noticed, and sets the exit levels your strategy requires.

Two days later the divergence has narrowed and the position exits at its target. Nothing in the story required certainty, luck or heroics: measurement, comparison, a rule, an action, an explanation. Multiply that loop by every hour of every day, across every instrument you follow, and you have an honest description of what you are renting.

Now run the same story against its unfavourable twin. The divergence widens instead of narrowing, the position exits at its stop, and the weekly summary reports a small loss in plain words. The loop is identical: measurement, comparison, a rule, an action, an explanation. That symmetry, the same discipline applied to losing exits as to winning ones, is the actual product; any machine can be lucky, and what you are paying for is one that cannot panic.

Questions about the technology

Does the AI trade completely on its own?

It executes the rules you approved, continuously and without needing you online, but it invents nothing: universe, conditions, sizes and limits are all agreed with your manager first, and any change is one conversation away.

Does it work on shares as well as digital assets?

Yes, the same engine covers both, applying the appropriate measures to each market's character: exchange hours and earnings seasons for shares, continuous trading and weekend gaps for digital assets.

When does it stop trading?

Every strategy carries stop conditions: when markets become excessively unstable, trading pauses rather than executing into chaos. You can also pause any strategy yourself with one click, at no cost, at any moment.

Can the AI be wrong?

Yes, regularly and unavoidably, because it estimates likelihoods in uncertain markets. Its edge is discipline and coverage, not perfection, and honest sizing assumes losing periods will happen.

Do I need experience or technical knowledge to use it?

No. Setup is done with your manager on a single call, alerts and reports are written in plain English, and the platform assumes no prior knowledge anywhere in its design.

How do I see what the engine did and why?

Every action appears in the dashboard with its trigger described, the weekly summary collects the period's decisions and results, and the audit history records every event on the account in order.

What does the technology cost?

Nothing beyond the standard platform terms: no monthly fee, commission up to 0.58% per transaction, and every cost shown before confirmation. The engine is part of the platform, not an upsell.
